The Facebook Gives Itself a Facelift

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

In case you haven’t heard, Facebook has redesigned itself. What is to happen to third party applications, like Where I’ve Been?

Where I’ve Been’s own CEO, Michael Dalesandro was interviewed by Eric Benderoff of The Chicago Tribune yesterday on the effect of the Facebook facelift.

“I’m expecting a 20 percent haircut on my numbers”, the CEO said regarding the multi page new “profile” users are being introduced to this week. Because essentially the users have several pages to display their profile, it is less likely for their friends to notice the third party applications that they may want to add themselves.

As I am sure most of you are well aware of visiting a friend’s Facebook profile to see their Bumper Stickers, Carbon Foot Prints, Lil’ Green Patches and Where I’ve Been Maps. A lot of us would never know about these great maps if it wasn’t for checking out what our friends are up to. Most of us are too busy to go perusing through the thousands of third party application that are available on Facebook currently.

The good news about the new look of Facebook is that users are given several customizable tabs for wall, info, photos, and boxes. This means that you can customize tabs for your favorite Facebook apps. The other benefit of the new look is the fact that Facebook users will have a more organized, less cluttered space to represent themselves.

If you have not received the updated version of the Facebook profile, no worries. They just started introducing the new look on Monday. They will get to everyone.

Facts about Where I’ve Been:

- Since its Launch last Summer, Where I’ve Been has been installed 7 million times betwen Facebook, Myspace and other social networking sites.

- 75% of the Interactive Map Application’s installations have been installed by Facebook users.

- Where I’ve Been has become a growing business with growing ad rates on Facebook.

- By the beginning of 2008, Where I’ve Been gained a partnership with Orbitz, the online travel site, where you can book your flight, hotel room and even a rental car or site seeing tours.

- Where I’ve Been gained over 1 million users in the first month of life.

- Where I’ve Been has over 80,000 daily active users on Facebook alone.

Where I’ve Been in PCMag.com

Friday, July 18th, 2008

Where I’ve Been has been listed in PCmag.com as one of the top 9 Facebook Applications. This is based on sheer usefulness and not as an annoyance to your friends. Where I’ve Been was ranked #5 and below is what Pcmag.com had to say about them.

“5. Where I’ve Been
With Where I’ve Been, you can brag to the entire Facebook community about what countries you’ve lived in (highlighted in red), where you’ve visited (blue), and where you still want to go (green). It’d be nice if the application integrated some of the functionality of SideStep’s Trips application, which lets you display your planned trips and invite friends to “go along” with you. But I prefer the simple and effective design, as well as the larger user base, of Where I’ve Been. The interactive world map allows you to mark both countries and cities, as well as U.S. states, Canadian provinces, and a few other international regions (for example, Australia’s six states). It’s a fun way to keep track of where you and your friends have been, as well as keeping tabs on what old friends are up to now (or, at least, what corner of the world they’ve managed to reach). The app is hooked into Orbitz, which can be either annoying or helpful, depending on whether you want help finding airfare to the places you’d like to visit.”

Congrats again to Where I’ve Been! Keep up being maptastic!

Brice Changed the Air Filter!

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Yay! You know with the constant change in the weather in Chicago this year and everyone having the sniffles, it may be a good idea to make sure to change your air filters regularly. It is wise to also check your filter to make sure that they are either 30 day filters or if they are seasonal filters. Some filters only need to be change every three months. So if you have allergies and have been sneezing a lot more than normal, before you run to Walgreen’s to stock up on the Wal-itin or Claritin, try changing out your filters first.
