Have you seen the Mufin Man?

Posted on October 8th, 2008 by Heather

So I was reading TechCruch this morning and there was an blog about the soon to be launched, mufin.com, (abbreviation for music finder) an automated music recommendation site. As an avid listener to Pandora, (an online radio station which allows you to create stations based on an artist or song of you choice) I was excited to hear about another potentially awesome and easy to use music site. I was able to get an invitation code from the TechCrunch blog and register. Although they are still in Beta testing, you are able to check out the layout, kind of test things out and see if you like it. It is supposed to be the best, most accurate music finder out there for matching songs to a favorite artist or song. I typed in Daft Punk and it lists out all of the possible songs and versions of those songs, you select one and it then pulls from its database all of the songs that you may possibly like. I selected “There’s Something About Us” and then Mufin listed out songs similar to that song and gave me a percentage of how close to the song they relate. mufin bases their music matching on over 40 characteristics of a single song to effectively match songs that users would like. A few characteristics are genre, tempo and sound density. It’s pretty cool that there is a music algorithm site out there with truly matching songs to what you might like, not matter how well known the artist or song may be. What’s even cooler is that they are launching widgets for both Myspace and Facebook so that you can check it out without leaving your favorite social networking site! Song other music sites, including my beloved Pandora match some pretty random songs with your selected artist. If you have a chance, I encourage to read the TechCrunch article and check out mufin.com
