GIFs (or graphics interchange formats) have been all over the place lately. Haven’t noticed? Check out some of these sites that have gone incredibly viral in the past month or two.
At first they began as general sites like What Should We Call Me and How Do I Put This Gently. Once those increased in popularity, similar sites began to branch out targeted towards specific niches. There are some pages dedicated to Chicago neighborhoods, PR pros, and people who’ve studied abroad.
Why are these sites so successful? I’m sure there are numerous arguments to answer that question. When I asked my friend, Kimberly Lucio this question, this is what she had to say:
“I think the reason people love GIFs and those GIF sites is that you learn so many people react to things the same way, so its funny to relate.”
I’d have to agree. In order to really understand the jokes behind these sites, you have to have a certain connection with the experiences that they are drawing on. For example, working at a busy agency in the city can sometimes mean I eat lunch at my desk to make sure deadlines are met. That’s one reason why this particular GIF made me laugh.
That being said, Josh, a designer here at Blueye created some GIFs using our team. What do you think?
