As our bosses, Shannon and Abby make sure that everyday is unlike the day before. There’s always excitement in the office whether it involves beach balls or birthday celebrations—we never know what to expect in the Blueye office.

So in return for all of the good times in the office, we’re showing you our appreciation and love the best way we know how: dessert and gifts.

A lot has been going on in the past few weeks in the digital world… just like any other week, but here are a few things that really caught my eye.

Pregnant? Put it on Facebook.

Yeah, you heard right. Now lists of 3 parents, 5 aunts and uncles, and 17 cousins can meet the newest addition to Facebook’s family tree: expected children. These almost parents have the choice to even add the unborn child’s name if they really want to. Everyone’s newsfeeds just got a little more personal.

FourSquare’s New Biz Pages:

FourSquare is allowing businesses to make it a lot easier to personalize and take control of their business pages. It’ll be interesting to see how these new pages effects its success.

Possible Soon-To-Be Google Employee

Getting hired these days is no easy task, especially not with a company like Google. Matthew Epstein took creative matters into his own hands and is definitely standing out from the rest of Google’s job applicants with charm, humor, a mustache to die for, and a website you absolutely have to see. Good luck, Matthew.

True Inspiration

Here’s one last thing I think that is worth mentioning. There’s a video online describing how college students are making legally blind students a priority, and rightfully so. Just watch the video. You won’t regret it.

Okay, so first and foremost I have to give credit where it’s due. The image here is pulled from one of the funniest posts I’ve ever read online. A fictitious (I think) post by David Thorne at 27b/6 about a client who comes to him to make a poster for her to publicize her recently lost cat. You can find the original here, so I recommend checking it out when you have a few minutes (especially if you’re a designer).

Okay but really, where do you turn when you lose something? Well, if it’s something tangible – a scarf, your keys, your cell phone, your cat – most likely you’ll start with the lost & found box or hop on the phone to the nearest location where it may have been last seen. But what about those intangible, untouchable things? What about losing your ideas, your inspiration? Well lucky for us, the internet has created a vast outlet for gathering inspiration in addition to the things we may take for granted every day like merely being outdoors. Here are a few sites I like to refer to for inspiration (your mileage may vary).

Flickr: Just jump in and head straight to the Explore page. The internet wouldn’t exist without links, and this is a great place to just start clicking around. Flickr is nice because you have a wide variety of users and contributors, from professional photogs to the everyday Joe with a camera phone.

Method & Craft: This is a new one for me, and I believe my first click-through was via a mention about how beautiful this website is. M&C has a bit of everything – articles, interviews, tips & tricks – even if it is fairly heavy on the design side. Nevertheless, one of the best ways to find inspiration is to remove yourself from your everyday life and learn something new.

Design.org: Apparently the web address www.design.org randomly became available one day and the fine folks that snatched it up probably thought, “Well, I guess we need to do something with it now.” I’m sure glad they did. A huge selection of subject matter from photography to home accessories right at your fingertips, well mouse tips at least. Big photos, easy to read text, and a ton of tags make browsing simple to do. Check it out.

Kids: Okay I lied. This one isn’t a website but an actual living, breathing thing. Kids have super active imaginations built right in, so take some time and just watch them. Listen to the what they have to say, the questions they ask. Watch them draw, and draw with them. At the very least it may teach you how to simplify your thought process.

Nice and foamy or on the rocks. At Dusk or even dawn. And rarely is just one enough. Like most, I started drinking at a very young age. Now that I’m working at Blueye I’ve noticed that like most agencies, firms and offices we know that Americans run on more than just Dunkin. We all have to tend to that one addict. Get them their “fix” right before a meeting or just to get their creative juices going. Especially when pressure is running high and work piles on, the only way to feel a bit of stress release is to skip the sipping and take down a shot….of that sweet moment of bitter brewed espresso.

Yes, coffee is a Blueye staple. When the bean grinder broke on us last week, it wasn’t a surprise to anyone. We brew so much coffee a day that its warranty gets cut in half. Our clients love it too. They always know they can get a good cup of Joe here. So please tell us how you like your coffee and what brand you prefer.

This morning I read a post on cnn.com about TEDx Midwest speaker, Jason Fried‘s presentation, “Work doesn’t happen at work“. The speech and report touches on employees not having enough time in the work day to get enough tasks done at work. I have to say that I agree with not having enough time in the work day. If it isn’t a meeting, a status update, managerial check-in or a client phone call, it’s a email you have to reply to immediately. Who knew taking a break from the work distractions would help people be more productive! There are many times that I just turn off the Skype, close out of my email and blast some tunes while I focus on my work. It really helps when you are able to tune out your surroundings to get work done!

Below is the paraphrased version of Jason’s list of solutions to getting more work done at the office:

1. Instead of casual Fridays, how about no-talk Thursdays? Try it. You won’t believe how effective it is.

2. Use passive instead of active communication tools. When someone calls your name, knocks on your door, or stops you in the hallway, you can’t avoid them. Even if you try, you’re already distracted. So, instead of relying on so much face-to-face communication and collaboration — what I like to call “active” communication — try more passive methods of communication. Use e-mail. Use instant messaging. Use collaboration software.

3. Cancel your next meeting. Or just don’t attend it. I’m not suggesting you boycott all meetings — just the next one. Life will go on.

Productivity is extremely important to be a well oiled machine. I find myself staying after 5:00 more often then not, because there isn’t anyone to distract me from my good ol’ to do list. What do you think about a less “M & M” (managers & meetings) process, and a more “put on the blinders” approach?

What is the most asked question in October? Why of course it is, “What are you going to be for Halloween?” I ask this question to someone at least once a day. Social media finds it to be a very important and popular question as well. At Mashable, a Halloween costume contest is being held to find the most creative Social Media themed costume to win a $400.00 shopping spree at Griffin Technology. How creative do you think you can be? Are you going to participate in the contest or will you just go as whatever else you want that isn’t social media related? I know I’m going to be a 50′s style “pin up” librarian, which isn’t social media related at all, but I’ll make sure to update my facebook and twitter from my android smart phone.

Today Super Mario Bros. celebrates their 25th year as fighting plumbers, defending the honor of Princess Peach against Bowser and his minions of Bullet Bill, Fly traps, fire balls and other bad guys.

I remember when I got my Nintendo system. It was for Christmas, I was 7 and it was 1990, for me, not 1985. My mom being a big kid at heart, played it before I opened it for Christmas, to, you know, make sure the system wasn’t defective or anything. Growing up through the years, I remember playing The Super Mario Bros. games on my step-brothers’ Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64. I outgrew video games in high school, trading them in for sports and dance teams at school, as well and having a more active social life, but I still love reminiscing about all of the fun times I had. If my step Dad didn’t throw out my original Nintendo game system, I’d probably still play a game every once in a while.

I LOVED playing the game SO much. I wasn’t very good at it, but it was my favorite out of all the video games I had. Now, 25 years after it originally came out, Nintendo is celebrating with a new game made for its newest game system, the Wii. I’m sure my mom will be “testing” Super Mario Galaxy 2 out on the Wii too! That’s right, she has a Wii and I don’t, but it’s okay. Watching her move all over the place while trying to stay alive and maneuver Mario through the levels will be entertainment enough for me!
